mason jar bookends

Happy Tuesday! Here is my first D.I.Y. post!!

If you know me, then you know I love/am obsessed with mason jars. If I could I would use them for everything, but then it would look weird. Ok, so here goes my first D.I.Y. post!

I got my inspiration for these bookends from pinterest and anthropologie. On pinterest, they showed people making bookends out of mason jars, but they were pretty plain. They used the mason jars as vases, which is cute, or just spay painting patterns on them. The inspiration from anthropolgie is from their winter version of a snow globe, in which you place some form of glitter and the miniature christmas trees inside. So instead of winter I decided to go for a spring look/feel.

Materials:
  1. mason jars (preferably the ones with one smooth side)
  2. painter's tape / decal
  3. gold spray paint ( or any color you prefer)
  4. hot glue gun
  5. exacto knife
  6. moss
  7. your choice of miniature figures
Instructions:
  1. First cover the non-etched, smooth side of the class with masking tape. And trace out the open window you'd like. I chose to do one circle and one heart. Some other ideas you could do are a square, star, triangle, any shape really.

  2. Then take an exacto knife and you cut out the shape and tear away the extra tape, so that all that's covered is your window.

  3. The next part is fun, you take your jars out and spray paint them. Make sure to cover the whole jar, if you'd like you can also do the lids which is what I did. Also, be sure to lay some newspaper on the ground and go outside!

  4. Now for the fun part! Take off the tape, and you get the window as seen below!

  5. Last, you can put the moss at the bottom, so on the inside of the lid. I probably should have raised the moss a little higher so it can be seen better through the window. (I may go back and raise it a little more.) I hot glued the moss down, to make it more manageable. I then glued down my miniature figures. I also hot glued some to the sides of the glass. But really it's whatever inspires you.

I hoped my instructions are clear. Happy Crafting!

weekend recap

 new bookends

 new green leather leash

 new walk-in doormat

 moonlight tower comedy festival

 puddles pity party

I really didn't have much planned for this weekend, but it turned out to be quite interesting. On Friday, I created some new bookends for my books and movies. (D.I.Y. instructions for them tomorrow.)

On Friday, Duke chewed through is leash while we were out, and so I had to get him a new one on Saturday. Since I love my puppy so much I got him a brand new green leather leash, which as you can tell looks great on him. Saturday morning I got to go to pure austin fitness with a few friends to have partake in some great workouts and mostly to have fun. It's always fun to workout with friends! When the classes get hard you can start making faces at each other and/or encourage each other to keep going. They were having an expo there, so not only did we workout but we also ate some delicious free food and drank some free beer!! (Talk about cancelling out your workout session).

For the rest of Saturday, I had just planned to clean and re-organize everything in my place as well as take Duke to the dog park of course. The cleaning and re-organizing got interrupted by my friend inviting John and I to the Moonlight Tower Comedy Festival that was going on this week. We went to one show and and of course you would expect it to be hilarious which it was! I got to meet some great new people and make some new friends. I also got to meet puddles pity party, who by the way is more amazing live than in his videos. (This always makes me love the artist even more)

Sunday, was just the usual, catching up on some rest and having lunch with my family. My place is still quite not organized and finished as I'd like it to be, but I felt so tired and lazy from the day before it will just have to wait to be slowly finished throughout the week.

Hope you had a great weekend relaxing.

More from the movie Frozen!! Enjoy! and Happy Friday!

week in recap

sangria?

 can I go play?

fire gone wrong...

 peproni rolls

So Easter weekend started out with a bang. I went to El Chile for happy hour with Demas (shown above) and a few other friends. It was really good! Their margaritas had a different taste to them though. I got the chorizo quesadilla which were good.

I also got to spends tons of quality time with Duke! I took him to the dog park everyday I had him and he loved it! I may have pooped him out a bit too much because he had his tongue hanging out the whole way home. Since he was so good, I took him to the pet store and got him tons of treats and of course new toys.

John and I went to his friend's place to celebrate a birthday. We played this new, fun came called party phase. It was extremely entertaining and great for big groups of people, like the one we had. It's so easy for everyone to get involved and leaves no one out. The night ended with a big fire in the chimenea, it got kind of insane at times. It even got extremely hot at some points where my legs felt like they were on fire.

Lastly, this week I took Vernon to Double Dave's for their famous peproni rolls! They are so good and addicting! I even ordered to go for post-gym and lunch the next day for both of us. I ended up not eating my post-gym ones because I was still so stuffed from the ones I ate earlier that day with Vernon.

wednesday sibling night

my brother and i (we're missing steven)

 hopdoddy

 nutella crushed pretzel milkshake

 salmon burger

Happy Three Day Weekend!!!!

Last night, I had dinner with my brother (minus Steven he was MIA). My brother wanted to go to hopdoddy so that's where we went. There is always a line there no matter when you go, it is crazy. It is also crazy good. I've never had their milkshakes before, and their nutella crushed pretzel sounded so good. Who could ever pass up nutella! And plus I had skipped my post-workout smoothie since I was having dinner with my brother = milkshake substitute! Their special last night was salmon burger and it was yummy for my tummy!

Well, I hope all of you have a great three-day weekend with your friends and family! (Especially since I started my family time early!)

weekend recap

 mini burger sampler

 selfie

 cutie

 weeds

I know the weekend recap is later in the week this week, but thank you so much for all your patience with me.

On Friday, I went and checked out Gibson Bar for the first time with my coworkers. We made it a girls hh/night. Afterwards, a few of use went to dinner at Phil's Ice House and I had their mini burger sampler. I loved the sweet bun they used for the sampler, and that you can have a little taste of several different Austin area named burgers. Too bad we were too full for Amy's Ice Cream, plus there was a long line (nobody likes that).

On Saturday, I went and got my hair done. I got my first perm ever!!! It was quite exciting, took awhile and smelled. I got a wavy perm. I also got a free make-over at Sephora on Saturday as well. They showed me how to make my eyes look a bit bigger, which I will be trying this week (update on how it works later). The guy said it would be easy, but I have no idea. My favorite part of Saturdays is spending one-on-one time with Duke. Since we don't get to hang out together during the week.

Last but not least, more signs of spring in the air. Who says weeds are ugly?!

Have a great Wednesday.

last week update

 a slushie drain!!

 snow or hail?

checkers?

the ron burgundy

Update from last week!

First off, the CRAZY weather on Monday!!! Vernon and I were working late (yet again) to get things ready for the week and all of a sudden it started to hail! I was of course freaking out because I didn't want to be stuck at school (at least I wasn't alone) and Vernon being his cool, level headed self decided we should take pictures of this event. As you can tell it looked like snow outside, too bad we didn't have a snow day on Tuesday. After surviving this hail storm I took Vernon to Red's Porch, he'd never been before. Of course we ordered their fried pickles, I mean who doesn't love fried pickles. Also Vernon can't resist pickle chips. Since the fried pickles came out piping out, Vernon spread them out so they could cool down.

Later that week we took our friend Hannah to Gourdoughs. I knew the food was going to be super rich, heavy, and delicious so Hannah and I decided to split an entree so we could have dessert. We got the Ron Burgundy = YUMMYYY!!! We also got the Black Better dessert = DOUBLE YUMMYYY!!!

baby shower

 baby shower games

 soap or petit four?

flower wristlets

 gorgeous bouquets

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a baby shower hosted by my best friend for her sister (sharon loves this). I have to say everything was impeccable from the small details of the bouquet and flower wristlets to the choice of food and the baby shower games. It all just made everything so real, and seeing Sharon so happy and glowing. I cannot wait to meet this precious little girl!!
